Consultancy

Better Choices is committed to supporting schools and colleges in setting up, maintaining and making the best use of their Connexions/careers libraries, we currently provide a consultancy service to help with this.

Consultancy time can be used to examine and discuss topics such as:

  • Best location
  • Layout and organisation for the library
  • Accessibility
  • Systems to maintain it in a comprehensive, current and simple-to-use style
  • Suitable content – reference books and other materials suitable for the intended audience
  • Support and advice on the use of software packages and CLIPS.

Work carried out so far in schools and colleges includes:

  • General advice on development of Connexions/careers libraries
  • Suggestions for making a mainstream school’s Connexions/careers library more accessible to students with special needs
  • Practical help with organisation or reorganisation of materials,
  • Training library staff
  • Training student library monitors via our YIPC Resource pack*
  • Training Year 9 students, Sixth Form College tutors, Year 9 and Year 10 tutors and other teachers to use software packages.

*Students who we train as library monitors receive a certificate outlining the training and skills acquired. Did you know that students who work as library monitors may be able to use this experience in working towards achieving the Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award?
