Did you know that over 18 million people in Britain are in a ‘step family’ situation? A stepfamily is when a parent is in a relationship with someone who isn’t your mum or dad – like your mum or dad’s husband, wife, boyfriend or girlfriend. They may have children too. Sometimes getting used to new people is difficult at first – it doesn’t mean it will always be hard. Things can settle down when everyone gets to know each other better. If you need support to deal with this, there are different places you can get help.
Have a look at the ‘Children and Young People’ section of Parentline Plus
You can contact Childline, there’s a special section on stepfamilies, or telephone them on 0800 1111
You can use the library in your Connexions Centre too as it has information for you to read or take away. You could also go to Weblinx for more useful websites.
