Once you start work you’ll be paid a wage. There’s a minimum wage threshold and the current rates are:
- Main (adult) rate for workers aged 22 and over £5.80 per hour
- The Development rate for workers aged 18-21 inclusive £4.83 per hour
- The development rate for workers aged 16 -17 £3.57 per hour.
Apprentices are not covered by the National Minimum Wage.

If you get an Apprenticeship and are employed you'll be paid a wage that's usually the going rate for the job, but you'll pay Income Tax if you earn over £6475 a year.
If you go into work based learning you might get EMA.
