There are different sorts of legislation in force in this country that are designed to give us rights and protection as an individual, these cover such things as:

  • Ageism
  • Disability
  • Gender 
  • Race
  • Religion or belief
  • Sexual orientation

Basically this means that you should not be treated differently or in anyway less favourably than anyone else just because of your gender, your race, because you have a disability, or your age, your religion or sexual orientation.

Legislation is complex and if you feel that you have suffered from discrimination you need to seek advice. A good starting point is the official body responsible for ensuring that the legislation is working:
