Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships provide an employer-based route for developing industry recognised skills. They are open to young people aged over 16 and under 25. Sector Skills Councils made up of business representatives and others from that sector area have designed the course content within their own sector to ensure that apprenticeships meet business needs.

Apprenticeships are delivered through an integrated programme of on and off the job education and training. On the job the apprentices work with your staff and off the job is delivered through a local training provider, usually on a day-release basis. Training is funded through the government, provided employers use an accredited training provider.

There are

  • Apprenticeships
  • Advanced Apprenticeships

Apprenticeships usually take between one and three years, and apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 2, key skills and in most cases a technical certificate.

Advanced Apprenticeships usually take at least two years, and apprentices work towards a National Vocational Qualification (NVQ) at Level 3, key skills and a technical certificate.
